I never ever look down or be rude to reactive dog owners when myself and my dogs come across them on walks . I try to make light of it . I have upmost respect for those owners as they still make sure they take there dogs out for excercise and don’t give up on them , and I can’t imagine how stressed they must be . I just thank my lucky stars my dogs are so laid back every day and I don’t have to dread taking them out . I take my hat off to all you reactive dog owners for still carrying on caring so much for your dogs

Im so trained to having to cross over the road to avoid an oncoming dog i find i automatically do it every time i see a dog even when my dog isnt with me 🤣

My biggest fear the whole walk is running into an off leash dog and the owner is saying ooo don’t worry they’re friendly. My dog isn’t

I was in tears listening to your post because everything you said was so true for me and my beautiful girl. I just hope I reach my goal of being able to take her anywhere and just let her enjoy her walk without the fear of being attacked again.

My teenage dog isn’t a fan of kids at the moment after a few really hard interactions with children sprinting or trying to terrorise her (one of those times I had the parents scream at me to “just let their kids play with the dog”…. They were trying to pull her tail! 🙈🙈) We now have to do so much to avoid and build confidence back up again because of a few children whose parents should have really taught their kids to not sprint at dogs. We’re getting so much better now, but I just wanted to say a lot of reactive dogs have a history where something has happened to them to cause their triggers. Let’s all just be more mindful of dogs and try and avoid unknowingly causing someone else’s future reactivity!

Yep - this has actually happened to me following a dog attack. My confident happy girl and now terrified and lost her sparkle. I’m giving her time and trying to rebuild her confidence but we will instruct a behaviourist if we need to 💖 I’m heartbroken

the amount of times I've crossed the road when there's another dog coming towards us because I don't want Rupert to start barking at them 😂, he is doing really well tho, he mostly just looks at other dogs for a few minutes now, and then he's completely fine, and when Rupert doesn't react, neither does Fudge 🥰

Love this. Reactive is not always aggressive. I would never trade mine in. They just like space. My girl changed when her big sister died, her comfort blanket had gone.

Just give people space that have their dogs on leads, communicate with them. I always shout over, is your dog okay with me passing, if they say no, I take a wider berth. Also I always put my boy on a lead when I see a dog on a lead. My boy was fear reactive but after working with a behavioural trainer he is fine now, so I understand how people feel ❤️

Thank you. It has been a hard few years - when you meet a wonderful understanding dog owner on a walk is like hearing angels sing! My dog is now 12 and can't be bothered to react now,8 trainers down - I could have bought a lot of shoes with that money!
