Dangme Festival Season: Nugo(Ningo) Homowo Festival 2026 – Ni Fia Mi (Sprinkling of Kpekple) These are some pictures from yesterday’s Ni Fia Mi, one of the sacred rituals of the Dangme Homowo Festival in the Nugo (Ningo) Traditional Area. The ceremony followed the libation and prayers offered by the Wɔnɔ (Traditional Chief Priest) of the Nugo (Ningo) Traditional Area. The Wɔnɔ prayed for the people and also offered prayers for HRM Nɛnɛ Osroagbo Djangmah XII, Paramount Chief of Nugo (Ningo) Traditional Area, and HRM Manyɛ Naana Dugbakuwor Dugba II, Paramount Queen Mother of Nugo (Ningo), seeking ancestral blessings, protection, strength, peace, and prosperity for the people and their traditional leaders. Ni Fia Mi (Sprinkling of Kpekple) is a sacred ritual of thanksgiving to the deities, gods, and ancestors for helping the people overcome the famine and hunger that once besieged them. Homowo, meaning “hooting at hunger,” commemorates the community’s triumph over hunger and celebrates its resilience. During the ritual, Kpekple, the ceremonial food made from steamed cornmeal and palm oil, is sprinkled as an offering to the ancestors. Through this act, the people express thanksgiving and seek continued protection, good health, prosperity, and a rich harvest. The sacred observance is followed by family heads and principal elders, who perform the rite in their respective family homes. Families then come together to share meals and celebrate, strengthening family and community bonds. Dangme: Ni Fia Mi English: Sprinkling of Kpekple Kpekple: Ceremonial food made from steamed cornmeal and palm oil Ni Fia Mi is more than the sprinkling of food; it is an expression of thanksgiving, remembrance, faith, resilience, and respect for our ancestors.
