despite the fact that order is restored, and Terri with an I becomes deferent to her newest male love interest back in c1shet land, this movie has a lot of heart and feeling. save for a few lines, the cross dressing/ gay misunderstanding isn’t played in a way you’d expect from a 1985 script. that being said, is it respectful? uhhh no. it’s par for the course in terms of outdated language and m*sogyny. continued review: as terry with a Y, she goes through a series of predicaments that feel less like a loose shakespeare adaptation and more like a recurring snl segment— and i do mean that derogatorily. (i’m an snl hater) how will she get out of being on the skins team for gym? how will she convince her crush, the new kid, to ask her out when she and herself can’t ever be in the same room at once!! and of course terri’s perception that she’s suffering from m*sogyny isn’t misled, she hears some pretty horrible things spoken about her based on her gender by teachers, so it’s interesting that the journalism part takes such a back burner. it’s just an excuse for her to geek charming after about (checks watch) 6 hours. compare that to she’s the man, which of course has a different set up but focuses a lot more on soccer and her inherent equal skill. terri also starts to perform femininity in a hammed up way when switching back and forth? loved that. #creatorsearchinsights #shestheman #justoneoftheguys #filmrecommendation #tiktoktvfilmcontest
