I’m diagnosed with BPD, I get auditory hallucinations. Mine are like a phone ringing or notifications sounds on my cel phone. I also get visual hallucinations, but they’re usually just a spot or something in my peripheral vision. These only happen in times of high emotional stress or moments before a split, or if I’m about to fall asleep. I always know they’re not real. I don’t class them as psychosis. If I use my DBT skills, I can make them stop, which tells me that it’s not psychosis.

people forget that bpd tends to overlap with disorders that DO have psychotic symptoms and I feel like that’s where the misinformation started getting normalized because it’s so common for people with bpd to have another disorder that’s excused/ignored due to the bpd diagnosis I wrote an entire essay about how misdiagnosis can ruin the proper treatment, information, and diagnosis of a disorder and I saw bpd pop up a LOT due to the way the symptoms present

BPD alone does NOT have psychosis, however, there are individuals with BPD who also experience psychosis as a whole different thing. I have BPD and psychosis that come and go due to stress or after splitting

You can literally talk to any mental health professional and they’ll never say bpd has “psychotic tendencies” like schizophrenia

You're talking about clinical categorisations as if they are fact, or at all scientific. They are not. These are abstract categories derived from shit evidence. They're useful, but they're not true in a material sense - the ICD-11 doesn't even delineate BPD or any other personality disorders (except for EUPD and a style of it) out of the admission that this is the case, and if you ever read a decent CBT, DBT or diagnosis manual this is stated openly - the concepts used are lies or oversimplifications, because the truth is too complex to be widely applied by idiots. Psychosis is heavily correlated with bpd. This means bpd causes psychosis, as much as any psychiatrist classification can cause psychosis. You cannot give someone bpd, so you cannot conduct an experiment, so correlation is the highest bar you can cross.

Lowkey this girl genuinely just might have a psychotic disorder if she has those symptoms regularly…… it’s NOT a symptom of BPD to have voices talking to you constantly 😭

If you are hallucinating with BPD you either need to be evaluated or you are at max stress level, not sleeping, and it’s purely environmental and not a symptom of your BPD

just because something isnt part of the diagnosistic criteria, doesn't mean it cannot be a symptom. it just means its not prevalent enough to be a diagnostic criteria. aka very rare. psychosis or hallucinations and delusions can be part of any and all psychological illness and even without underlying illness.

Everyone alleges BPD ppl have psychotic symptoms and those are the literal negative stereotypes that are based on “borderlining on psychotic” which is what ppl made up

i think a lot of the “bpd can cause psychotic symptoms!!” comes from ppl w bipolar who were misdiagnosed or ppl who also have bipolar on top of BPd

Hi! I have BPD but I also have PTSD and possibly a dissociative disorder. I was under the impression that it was the BPD BECAUSE of the misinformation. I had a full psychosis episode last year and again, thought it was my bpd. I appreciate this video a lot!!

As someone who’s diagnosed a big part of my symptoms have been my psychosis and psychotic symptoms…. could this potentially be something else then? Cause they are the only debilitating symptoms I have?

any human will hallucinate if they are 1. tired enough & 2. stressed enough. people with a typical brain and affect will hallucinate, likely, at some point in their life. imo: auditory happens the most. BPD is genuinely, if you’re going to have a mental illness/PD, the best luck of the draw. BPD can go into remission!!! with DBT and medication, one gets to the point where they don’t qualify & eventually often don’t even need meds…. it is not like that for any other personality disorder, neurodivergence, affect disorder etc. remission with a mental illness?????? unheard of.
