there's like 10 corner stores in a 5 min radius of where I live, it's not a big town either

the core crime is that her tweet isn't remotely funny

I think what bodegas have that gas stations and pharmacies don’t is the sense of community. A great bodega is the lifeblood of your neighborhood, but a great CVS is virtually indistinguishable from any other CVS in the country. Judging a bodega for its utility is like judging a painting for its functionality as a placemat, you’d just be missing the point of it.

It’s actually very beautiful to me when people make comments that are directly quoted in the video itself because it is true to real museums when people ignore the didactic text next to the exhibit

idk I feel like walkable 24hr convenience stores are pretty common in most big cities

can you explain how it's different from a corner shop? In berlin they're often open 24 hours, and you can even buy alcohol and there's seating to drink it and eat etc

your description of the unique parts of bodegas still just sound like the corner stores near me. I live in dallas and i have a corner store that is less than a 3 minute walk and has hot food. Only thing it’s missing would have to be cars

It's the density, not the bodegas themselves. Having an almost-everything store within a 5 minute walk of your home is pretty game changing. As a Texan, I learned this from visiting NYC and France.

this "unique bodega" your describing is literally just the corner shop I live next to in Belfast.

Bodegas ARE corner stores, and NYC is not the only place with them lol

It’s just a special name for a convenience store.

From Jake's description of a bodega, I get why I'm confused.
I live in Chicago. We have all of this just not this word.

The hot food section isn’t even unique to bodegas as well because the rest of the north east has Wawa and sheetz

I can get in my car and arrive at these places in less than 5 minutes that sale all of that: cvs, Publix, Walgreens, keyfood, dollar general, dollar central and if I push it to 5 minutes I got a target, Walmart, aldis and a whole other dollar store.

Yeah, as a non-New Yorker, the walkability of NYC and the fact that bodegas are often family-run are the things I’m jealous of. There’s a 24-hour Walgreens two minutes from me by car, but it’s too far away for me to comfortably walk there at night and also they don’t have a cat I can pet.
