@doc4heart: I’m Dr. Michael Richman a double board certified cardiothoracic surgeon. In today’s video, I explain why soft plaque in your arteries doesn't always turn to calcium and how statins change plaque composition, not just harden it. At the end of the video, I discuss the practical implications regarding treatment of high cholesterol and atherosclerosis. For a cardiac or lipid consultation please go to my website at www.paladinmds.com #heartattack #cholesterol #stroke #cardiovascular #hearthealth
I've never suffered a heart attack or stroke, that being said would it be wise to take a statin as preventative care?

What does it mean to be double board certified and why does that matter to our health. Serious question.

Love your content. To simplify , it seems that the goal is to stop the progression of atherosclerosis by reducing lipids and increase stabilization .

My angiogram scan in 2019 said mild plaque and other recent ct scans showed same. Recent abdominal scan this year showed calcified plaque on abdominal aorta normal calibre. Does that mean mild still my dr just said it’s stable not concerned. Hes my general practioner 🤔how do I know if it gets worse and should I worry. I’m 72. . I’m on Crestor and Zetia. Ldl is 54.

That's why "calcium score' is not useful in evaluating the risk of coronary artery disease.
