Sooooo Myrtle Beach is undergoing a massive $72 million federal beach renourishment project to combat erosion from recent hurricanes. Crews are pumping 2 million cubic yards of sand from the ocean floor onto 26 miles of shoreline to widen the beaches and protect coastal infrastructure

Dear resident: friendly reminder tourist bring a lot of money to your city many businesses wouldn't survive without the money we as tourist bring to your city . kindness vs rudeness goes along way. I am always mindful of how invasive vacation season is when I visit the ocean and its surrounding city

Tourists talking in the comments about how important tourism is in the area are ignoring the face that if these projects are done when they are done the beach will erode and become unusable for everyone. This has to be done or there will be no beach to tour

They are making Wave Breaks. This helps when severe storms are coming to help keep the sea water from destroying the beach amd homes nearby...

Dredging all beaches do this fights erosion and so ships don’t get stuck. Beaches are dredged primarily for two interconnected reasons: maintaining navigable waterways and coastal erosion control. Navigation Maintenance: Sedimentation naturally fills harbors, inlets, and channels with sand and silt. Dredging removes this accumulated material to ensure safe passage for commercial shipping, recreational vessels, and boats, which require specific water depths to avoid running aground. Beach Nourishment: The sand removed from these waterways is often pumped directly onto eroding beaches in a process called beach nourishment. This adds volume to the shoreline to protect coastal structures from storm surges, restore habitats, and maintain beach width for recreation and tourism.
