This story branches off during Arc 6 after Subaru loses his memories and becomes obsessed with discovering who the “real Natsuki Subaru” was. Instead of accepting himself, he convinces himself that the person everyone admired was someone completely different, almost like another individual entirely.Believing that every person who knew him carried a fragment of the answer, Subaru begins reading Books of the Dead and gathering memories. His obsession grows into madness. He starts killing people connected to him so he can access their memories and reconstruct the image of the perfect “Natsuki Subaru.” What begins as a search for identity becomes a path of destruction.As he accumulates memories, Subaru's mind deteriorates. The people he kills seem to remain with him as hallucinations created from the memories he absorbed. He speaks to them as though they are still alive, creating a tragic illusion where he believes he is slowly rebuilding the hero everyone loved. In reality, he is becoming increasingly isolated and detached from reality.The core tragedy of Gluttony Subaru is that he cannot believe he himself could ever become the person everyone respected. Even after seeing countless memories proving how much others trusted and admired him, he concludes that the "real" Natsuki Subaru was someone beyond his reach. This self-hatred drives every terrible decision he makes.Throughout the route, he leaves devastation behind him. Entire groups of allies fall victim to his obsession as he hunts for more memories. Even people who once considered him a friend become targets. The story repeatedly emphasizes that he believes all of this can eventually be undone once he reconstructs the perfect Subaru, making his actions even more disturbing.A major theme of the route is the sin of Gluttony itself. Rather than being about food, it represents endless consumption. Subaru consumes memories, identities, relationships, and lives in an attempt to fill the emptiness inside himself. No matter how many memories he gathers, however, the answer he seeks remains out of reach because the person he wants to become already existed within him.By the end of the story, Gluttony Subaru stands as one of the most tragic IF versions of the character. Unlike Pride or Wrath Subaru, whose corruption comes from external goals, Gluttony Subaru is destroyed by his inability to accept his own identity.
