@the.baby.whisperer: LUMBAR REFLEX 🍼 The lumbar reflex is key to the motion of the spine. It is the longest leverage our spine has to arch, the signature of our bipedal capacity. 🦴 The process of birth is incredibly sophisticated, allowing the child (and so much more) to reorganise his entire spine and skull to prepare for the outside world. His first survival reflex is the Breast Crawl, which needs him to arch his back, push with his legs and lift his head to crawl to the breast. ✨ Imbalances happen when the structures of the body face an excessive amount of constraint and pressure, typically: forceps or vacuum, long or short birth, emergency or planned c-section, pressure on the tummy, low amniotic fluid for a long time, lying down with legs up, and more. C-section babies are usually born with the lumbar spine in foetal position and develop more or less limitation. When the lumbar spine is mechanically functional for a c-section baby, the imbalances show on the upper thoracic spine and chest. In extremely rare cases there is no alteration of the balance. Every delivery is different, demonstrating the extraordinary ability of the body to adapt.
