@carson.mcsorley: 📍 Meteora Greece. A train ride from Athens. This is one of the most insane places I’ve been blessed to see. I think about it a lot. The day we went we could not see anything for the first 2 hours because of the fog. Our taxi driver was taking us around cliffs and I was freaking out because we couldn’t see more then 3 feet in front of us. But when the fog cleared this was the view. It looked like heaven. Orthodox monks actually built the buildings on top of the cliffs to be closer to god—seeking solitude, prayer, and protection. At its peak, there were about 24 monasteries; today, 6 remain active and can be visited. Many monks and nuns still live here & continue a daily life centered on worship, hospitality, and preserving the monasteries’ traditions. #greece #meteora #travel #wonderoftheworld #athens
