A 28-year-old widow, Tosin Omolola, has regained access to her home after an alleged attempt by her late husband’s family to force her out of the property triggered public outrage and government intervention. The case went viral after activist Harrison Gwamnishu shared a video showing a man identified as Tosin’s father-in-law padlocking the gate of the residence in Ikorodu, Lagos, allegedly preventing the widow and her two children from accessing the property just eight days after her husband’s death. Gwamnishu alleged that members of the family had moved into the house following the death of Tosin’s husband on July 20, 2026, and accused them of intimidating the widow, restricting her living space, and attempting to take control of her late husband’s belongings. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) said it contacted Tosin after the report emerged and confirmed that the alleged perpetrator had been arrested following a complaint involving threats, assault, and intimidation. In an update, Gwamnishu said Tosin’s father-in-law’s arrest led to her mother-in-law and other family members vacating the property, leaving the home for the widow and her two sons. The matter has now been taken over by the DSVA, which said investigations are ongoing while reaffirming its commitment to protecting widows and children from unlawful harassment and dispossession.
