@elliotb.fit: 6 things I wish I knew before I started lifting 👇 When I first started training, I thought building muscle was all about training harder than everyone else. I spent years making mistakes that slowed my progress down when the answers were actually much simpler than I realised. If I could go back and give my younger self some advice, it'd be these 6 things. 1️⃣ You don't need a perfect programme Most programmes work if you follow them consistently. Stop looking for the perfect plan and start focusing on executing the one you're already on. 2️⃣ Getting stronger matters If your lifts aren't improving over time, your physique probably won't either. Focus on progressive overload and give your body a reason to grow. 3️⃣ Recovery is just as important as training I used to think more was always better. The reality is that your body grows when it recovers, not when you're in the gym. If you're not sleeping well, eating enough protein or fuelling your training properly, you're making it much harder to build muscle. 4️⃣ You don't need as many exercises as you think A handful of well chosen movements performed consistently will outperform a complicated workout full of random exercises. Focus on mastering the basics before worrying about the finer details. 5️⃣ Results take longer than you expect Most people quit because they don't see changes after a few weeks. The people who get great results are usually the ones who stay patient and keep showing up. 6️⃣ Consistency beats everything The best training plan in the world won't help if you can't stick to it. A good plan you follow for years will always beat a perfect plan you follow for a few weeks. Looking back, none of the things that eventually got me results were particularly exciting. I followed a programme, tracked my lifts, prioritised recovery, ate well and repeated the basics over and over again.
