Growing up, I always dreamed of becoming a model. But life had other plans for me. At a young age, I learned that dreams sometimes have to wait because reality comes first. I helped run our small sari-sari store and looked after our family’s KTV bar. I witnessed things no child should have to witness. I saw fights, acted as a little “bouncer” at times, and was even pulled out of school to appear as a witness in a court hearing. Life taught me lessons far beyond my age. As I grew older, I started working while studying. I became a laundry staff and a bartender’s assistant of a mobile bar. Those experiences opened my eyes to the realities of life. Yet despite everything, I was never ashamed of where I came from. In fact, those memories became some of the most valuable lessons I carry with me today. When I moved to a different city, life didn’t suddenly become easier. Since I was already used to working while studying, I applied to call centers, cafes, and laundry shops. Most of them turned me down because they don’t accept part timers. Eventually, a business owner who ran an ice cream stall at the Cogon Night Market gave my friend and me an opportunity to work as ice cream sellers. It was exhausting but memorable. More importantly, it allowed me to see the struggles of everyday people who were simply trying to survive and provide for their families. Then, life surprised me. I was discovered by a modeling and TikTok agency, and little by little, doors began to open. Opportunities I once only dreamed about started becoming reality. Today, whenever I stand on a runway, attend events, create content, or pursue my dreams, I carry that young tindera with me. The kid who worked while studying. The kid who never gave up despite the challenges. Because behind every achievement is a story of my hard work.
