@alicebleathman_: After SO much thought (and so much experimenting) we’ve decided to go down the route of sleep training our 13 month old. We’ve paid for a sleep consultant who offered to fly up to help us with sleep because we are at absolute breaking point. I’ll share our journey over the next couple of weeks💙 #sleeptraining #toddler
GIRL! My almost 7 month old is struggling SO MUCH. She has been waking up pretty much every hour or more! I decided yesterday night I was finally going to “give in” and start sleep training. I’m trying so hard to make it gentle and less crying. I’m doing a combination of the “chair “method and “pickup put down”. This is our first night so I’m sure some things will change and adjust but I’m hoping I’m successful! 😭

We teach children to do everything else, eat, drink water, roll over, sit up, crawl, walk. Why is sleeping any different? We need to teach them it’s ok to wake up, but also how to soothe themselves back to sleep. If you feel sleep deprived, imagine how their little bodies feel experiencing the same thing? Also, sleep is crucial for cognitive and physical development.

Sleep training is only controversial because people don’t really understand it and how it can be done in a way that isn’t just leaving bubs to cry for hours on end. As a third time mum I do have a giggle when people say they will never do it. I generally do a light sleep train around 4-5 months for a routine and then generally most babies go really backwards from 11-15 months. My 15 month old is still struggling with sleep and I’m back to sleep training but you do what you have to do. Tonight I’m just giving in and watching the wiggles at midnight 🤣🤣 (she’s sick so not a normal night)

What I love about this is the normalisation of saying “I was against it” it’s so important to show mums that you can have a different perspective once you’ve experienced it, it’s all fluid 🥰❤️

This is why it’s so important to build good sleep foundations from the beginning so you don’t need to sleep train

I have 2 kids. my 4 year old we didnt sleep train. I didnt sleep for 2 years. he would comfort nurse ALL NIGHT. I didn't sleep more than a couple hours at a time without waking up. I have an 8 month old who I sleep trained and the difference between how I am as a mom the first 2 years with my first vs now with my 2nd is NIGHT AND DAY. I will advocate for sleep training for any parent who is not getting sleep.

You never truly understand until you become a mum. And it’s ok to change your perspective when your life changes ❤️

This makes my mom heart so sad. I too have been up hourly (sometimes even less) for months and months and months, but the thought of leaving your Bub when they need you is so sore on the heart.

This is why I’m not absolute about anything- or judging other mums. I didn’t sleep train, but feel lucky that I didn’t feel like I needed to. We are all just trying to survive. You do what’s right for you. Every kid, mum, family is different with different needs.

I promise it will get better I started sleep training around 15 months I would say she didn't sleep a perfect routine until about 18 months I was exhausted but I pushed through and now my daughter sleeps fantastic She is about to be 3 I would sit with her next to her bed back tickles settle walk away this could go on for 10 mins to 30mins longer time went on shorter the time I would stay then eventually got to the point I put her down she was sooth her self out in mins best of luck stay strong

Pleeease have him check by pead or gp. Definitely have a look at ears, nose, throat. Can make the biggest difference.

That actually sounds really positive. Having someone come in and help set a proper routine can make such a big difference, especially when you’ve been trying on your own and it’s not quite clicking yet.
Sometimes it’s not that anything is “wrong,” it’s just needing the right structure that suits Bub at this stage. I hope this time it finally starts to feel easier for you both and you get a bit more rest too 🤍
Even just having someone guide you through it in your own home can take so much pressure off, so fingers crossed it really helps things settle for you guys.
