![What sound takes you back? A storm over Transylvania’s forests does not arrive gently. It gathers beyond the Carpathian ridges, swallowing light and turning the horizon to charcoal. Then the first rumble rolls across the canopy, and these woods feel exactly as they have for centuries, untamed, mysterious, and wonderfully indifferent to whoever happens to be passing through. These forests are among the largest continuous natural woodlands left in Europe, home to brown bears, wolves, lynx, and countless species that have disappeared from much of the continent. Beneath towering beech and spruce, moss blankets stone, mist drifts through the branches, and the scent of rain-soaked earth rises from the forest floor. During a summer storm, the entire landscape seems to breathe deeper, as if the mountains themselves have awakened. Standing before a scene like this, it becomes difficult to remember why we spend so much of life indoors. Thunder reminds us that nature was never designed for comfort. It was designed for awe.
