No listen. It really was that deep for Bakugo. He always saw it as a competition he was losing. He had always treated Deku that way because he knew he’d be lesser if Izuku had a quirk. When Izuku got one, he had to cope with his worst fear coming to light- someone better than him was finally in the competition. Once he learned why Izuku had his quirk, it changed. He saw that there was a reason for all of it, and he worked to push Izuku, while still trying to be better than him. When Deku had to retire from hero work because he lost his quirk before he could even fully get started, it was soul crushing. The only person who could rival him was out of the game. He wanted to earn being at the top, but I think he would have been able to settle for second if it was to Deku. When he learned that Deku was quirkless again he was crushed for BOTH of them- because to him, that meant he couldn’t work alongside Izuku, and to Izuku, he knew it meant never being the symbol of hope he wanted to become. He paid the most for Deku’s hero costume because he wanted to work alongside the person who pushed him hardest. THATS why he wanted to add him to his agency, that’s why she won’t train anyone unless they’re like Deku. He also did it because that was the thing Deku wanted most. He knew that Izuku wasn’t Deku if he wasn’t living his life to help people. That’s why Deku became a teacher. That’s why he was a hero. Bakugo, even as a child, could always see that. For Katsuki Bakugo, it was always about Izuku Midoriya in some manner. He lived and died for that boy, and he would do it a hundred more times if he had to

Fun fact: when I first saw Bakugo i genuinely thought this bih was a background character bc they made him look kinda basic. Then he kept re-appearing and I realised he was a literal character.

And some people still says that he's a jerk the whole time. If they actually took time to see how his tone changed and his actions became more soft over the course of one year with 1A and everyone else.

I remember first watching this show in high school when it was just coming out. And from the first fight they had on UA training grounds, I remember saying, “he’s gonna be one of the best characters of this show.” My friend at the time didn’t believe me because of how rude and cruel he was acting in the beginning. But I never lost faith that Katsuki Bakugo would not only change, but also evolve and become Deku’s strongest lifeline, right next to All Might and the vestiges. It was a beautiful thing to see.
