Take this as a thrift tip if you will - DRY ROT FUNGAS. If its sticky, has flakes or pieces falling off, CHUCK THE ITEM/S OUT. It happens mostly to items with plastic in it (like the bag in this video, its pleather) but it also happens to genuine learher as well!! when the oil evaporates from the leather, the fibres dry out and crack, and when faux leather is exposed to moisture then left to sit for long periods of time and without proper ventilation dry rots going to be inevitble. Guys it wont happen overnight but once it starts there isnt a lot you can do but throw the item out and hope it doesnt spread 🫠 I cant tell you how much dry rot i see when im sourcing (its a lot) so if youre thrifting let one of the volunteers know, theyre usually pretty happy to throw the item/s out. Best way to prevent this is to store your leathers somewhere humidity controlled which isnt accessible for basically anyone (lol). checking your shoes, belts, bags and clothes often is key. I personally like to buff my leathers and pop them in the sun after winter each year, as for the plastic leather, im trying to buy less bc i cant deal #vintage #vintagefashion #thrifttips #vintageshoes #dryrot #thrifting #fashiontiktok
