As an Asian American also, I dispute many points that you made in this video. Maybe that is your personal life experience and deduced conclusion. But it’s not what I feel and what I see in my life. You can have your opinion but please don’t generalize it and think others also feel the same way. I love this country, and I want to do my part to contribute, and make it better for future generations. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

my parents American dream was to come to the USA... mine is to leave and as soon as my kids are done with school I'm out

Yeah as a daughter of immigrants I feel it. Every time I go back to Hong Kong I feel at home in my bones. But right now especially right now it sucks to be back home.

this is my exact concern, as someone who lives in New York for 11 years and I’m now planning my way back to my home country🥹

You have spoken the real truth. I am with my partner, thinking about babies. Where should we raise them. I wish I could move back - but it’s not so easy. Painful.

yeah i felt way way waaay more at home when i spent time in my mom's hometown, but as my mom has said, we no longer have our "root" there so it is difficult to return in any way that is permanent

Lol…yup as a 2nd gen Chinese-American, I feel this hard. My mom gets mad at me whenever I bring up fleeing to China lol

Not sure why the comments are so negative. I agree with the sentiment of th video. You can nitpick about this or that but largely I have never felt like I was accepted in the US and the economic growth of Asian countries really makes the tradeoff of living in the US seem less and less necessary.

You can’t do analysis from purely sociocultural lenses because the factor of class is so prevalent. I grew up in both China and the US and I recognize this is not a privilege that many other 1st/2nd gen Chinese Americans have, but it helps significantly to integrate in both

Wait - so the whole point of this video was to remind us that, it sucks? How connected are you to other Asian American communities here - bc we unpack this work, all the time and do our best to move forward

I'm a child of refugees, vietnamese American, who near a large population of my diaspora, so most of this doesn't really apply to me. I feel bad for other vietnamese Americans who were raised away from the diaspora though

In the future, tape the script next to the right or left of the phone. Won't be so obvious you're reading from something. And I agree with your take.
