The current national flag of South Sudan was designed by a team of prominent SPLM leaders, including Dr. John Garang de Mabior, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, Counsel John Luk Jok, and Pilot James Korou Tong Aleu. Although numerous flag proposals were submitted by different groups within the movement, the design we proudly fly today was approved and officially adopted by the movement in 1984. The first copies of the flag were then printed in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼, marking an important milestone in South Sudan’s struggle for freedom and self-determination.
