@persecondnews.ng: A brief moment of tension erupted in the Senate after Senator Abdul Ningi entered the chamber carrying a traditional spear as part of his cultural regalia. Concerns were raised over the presence of the item, prompting officials to move for its removal. However, Ningi insisted he would personally take it out of the chamber and would not allow the Sergeant-at-Arms to handle it. “You don’t know the importance of it and what it means. I will take it away myself,” the senator said. Ningi subsequently left the chamber with the spear and other traditional items. Senate President Godswill Akpabio later commended the lawmaker for peacefully removing the objects. Explaining the incident, Ningi said the spear was a cultural symbol linked to his role as spokesperson of the Adamawa Kingdom and was not intended to threaten anyone. He stressed that the regalia represented the heritage of his people and dismissed suggestions that he posed any danger to fellow lawmakers. “I have been in the National Assembly for close to 19 years. I cannot, on my own, violate the rules of this chamber,” he said. #nigerianews #nigeriannews #nigeriansenate
