Because Lombok Strait is not international water. It's Indonesian Territorial water and going further is her archipelagic water which means all ships subject to Indonesian law. So it's safer to ply thru Malacca Strait which is international Straits to avoid unnecessary coastal state rules and regulations.

While most video clips always use sea bed depth, speed and distance to highlight the importance of the Strait of Malacca, there are so many others important factors that were neglected. Singapore ports vast connection network to other world port, midway safe and speedy replenishment, etc just for example are not highlighted, explained and informed. The complexity of these factors that Singapore ports possessed above are almost prefect where most countries port dared not to claim they are better than Singapore ports!
