@gaygtownbae: #greenscreenvideo I don’t typically like stitching people or tagging content anymore, but sometimes I have to highlight how abusive these opinions are unfortunately. This opinion lives comfortably on all sides of the political spectrum. I would encourage folks to rewatch their own content from the perspective of a viewer who exists within these identities we feel so strongly about. @artsyhoneybee #bioethics #disability
these people would rather "advocate" for hypothetical disabled children's comfort than advocate for the very real disabled that currently exist in their lives and i find that genuinely disturbing

our disabled existence isn't inherently mean or cruel, & hearing that argument from both abled & fellow disabled people still hurts p much everytime. we deserve to exist & are just as much a core part of humanity as everyone else.

If we follow her logic, anyone with a disability that could possibly be inherited shouldn’t have kids. Standard eugenics. For the unaware, the couple said “DS is objectively sh!tty” & that “90% of people” would make the same decision: framing their personal choice as an objective decision that anyone would make. That anyone is arguing that this isn’t eugenics just shows how little people understand eugenics. Thanks for making this.

Most disabled people are not born disabled, but become disabled from life circumstances.. By her logic, should we just ☠️everyone who ends up disabled? No, we should adapt so that everyone has a chance at a life worth living. People inherently have value and matter. Everyone has become so individualist, i see so many teachers complaining about how parents don't actually want to parent. I think if you cannot reckon with the fact that you may have a child who becomes ill, you maybe shouldn't have one. I also think proper social supports should be in place for parents to afford to help their children no matter the circumstances.

The fact that people would rather loudly advocate for eugenics than just… fighting for accessibility and universal healthcare and for the technology that allows disabled people to live independently to be more widely available just… confuses me more than anything. How are people so genuinely heartless? Why do people REFUSE to advocate for a better world?

Shit I guess I’m mean and selfish for having a disabled child! Not like malpractice didn’t cause him to be disabled! My child is not suffering if anything he has done nothing but thrive!

I remember Imani talking about the societal definition/perception of disability being able to change over time. I was reminded of that during your suffering breakdown.

ableism is the final boss to liberation i feel. it's the most challenging oppressive ideology because it's deeply entrenched in everyone, even far left people. to really change the world, we have to learn to think and move so differently. thank you for your work and leadership!!

Honestly if you can’t handle a disabled kid DONT HAVE ANY KIDS. Disability most commonly happens during life and all of us will be disabled eventually. These people need to fix their minds

so as a disabled person it's mean that I exist... okay Karen. by the way everything about that first clip was textbook eugenics of course most of the people having these crap opinions probably can't even define the term.

Thank you for putting this explanation here on TikTok. Disabled people are people - we matter and we deserve the same right to our humanity as every single last one of you.

I don't think that people who decide to move forward with a pregnancy despite knowing their child will have a disability are unethical or vice versa. Obviously people with disabilities deserve to exist and live with dignity and are still capable of living full, joyful lives. I do struggle to understand why the decision to share about terminating a pregnancy under such circumstances and expecting empathy is eugenicist though. It is a fact that disability causes distinct struggles and suffering, not just to the individual, but to the people who care for them as well. That is not negated by their capacity for joy or experiences beyond struggle and suffering. It seems natural to empathize with wanting to avoid struggle for yourself and your children if you can, especially because more often than not, we can't avoid it, and we just have to endure it. I also think that "deciding someone shouldn't exist" who is already alive is a much different conversation from making that decision about someone who literally does not yet exist (assuming you don't view fetuses as having the same personhood as fully conscious human beings). If those two things are no different, couldn't you argue that the forces of evolution are inherently eugenicist?

As an audhd adult with several physical disabilities, with two audhd kids and one of them also has Down Syndrome, fuck that girl and everyone like her. If you are not willing to have a disabled child, you shouldn't have any kids at all. Because any child can become disabled at any time. And yes I am prochoice and there is nuances, there are conditions that are incompatible with life and a baby being born with hurt and suffer their whole life and the life is hours to days at most. I get not having that child, it is nuanced. I also agree with you. I am happy you are speaking on this.

is choosing not to have children because you know you do not want to chance having to raise a child with a disability due to your lack of resources available to ethically care for said hypothetical child also considered participating in the concept of eugenics?

I’m disabled and you know what really makes my life suck? People like her who act like we can’t possibly have happy good lives. Like we can’t have our own hopes and dreams. The world wouldn’t be so difficult to live in if people were just more accepting of disabled people but nooo it’s actually cruel just for us to exist we don’t deserve the right because that’s “selfish”. Well fuck you too I’m fully capable of having a happy life and I hope when it finally happens to you that you snap out of this simple minded thinking.
