He eventually won the chaotic post-Stalin power struggle, denouncing Stalin's crimes in his famous 1956 "Secret Speech" and initiating a period of relative liberalization known as the "Khrushchev Thaw." 2. Lavrentiy Beria (Second from Left): The ruthless chief of the Soviet security and secret police apparatus (NKVD/MVD). Right after Stalin died, he briefly formed a ruling troika with Malenkov and Molotov and surprisingly pushed for radical reforms. However, the other leaders feared him intensely, and he was arrested and executed later in 1953. 3. Vyacheslav Molotov (Third from Left): Stalin's long-time, intensely loyal Foreign Minister (famous for the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and the namesake "Molotov cocktail"). He was an old-school hardliner who opposed Khrushchev's later de-Stalinization efforts. 4. Georgy Malenkov (Fourth from Left): Stalin's immediate successor as Premier of the Soviet Union. He briefly held the top spot but lacked the political cunning to withstand Khrushchev's maneuvering and was quickly sidelined. 5. Anastas Mikoyan (Fifth from Left - Wojak "Soyjak" face with beard): A brilliant diplomat and survivor. He managed to stay at the top of Soviet politics from Lenin's time all the way through to Brezhnev. He is drawn here as a classic excited Wojak. 6. Lazar Kaganovich (Sixth from Left): One of Stalin's main deputies and a chief architect of forced collectivization and industrialization. Like Molotov, he was a staunch Stalinist who was eventually purged from the government by Khrushchev in 1957. 7. Nikolai Bulganin (Far Right): A prominent Soviet politician and military administrator who served as defense minister and later Premier. He aligned with Khrushchev early on to get rid of Beria, but later joined an unsuccessful attempt to oust Khrushchev in 1957.
