Almost two months have passed since Mae Mon (also known as Subkamol) joined us at the sanctuary. In this short time, she has adapted beautifully and is already starting to feel at peace in her new home. Mae Mon loves bathing in the river, rolling in the mud, and rubbing against trees—as if she has rediscovered her childhood. These simple moments help soothe and heal a heart that was injured by traumatic events of the past. Age needn’t be an impediment to recovery for senior elephants if they are shown love and given the freedom to express their instincts and embrace a natural life.
