Lion’s Mane or Hericium erinaceus is saprophytic, feeding mainly on dead trees, preferring hardwood such as oak and maple. Hericium erinaceus means “hedgehog” in Latin. Lion’s mane is delicate with a mild shellfish flavor, and it is meaty and juicy when cooked. It is nutritious, contains antioxidants, and is known to have anti-inflammatory properties. Based on research, it may boost the immune system, help with anxiety and depression, and is good for brain health. I encourage you to research to learn more about this beautiful mushroom! The materials below were put in a filter patch bag. I added 10 cups of boiling water to hydrate and pasteurize the pellets and bran, then shook the bag (consider wearing oven mitts). I placed the block in a cooler to extend pasteurization and allowed it to cool overnight. 10 cups of hardwood fuel pellets 1 cup wheat bran 10 cups boiling water The following day, I inoculated the substrate with 4 cups of Lion’s Mane grain spawn and shook the bag. The block was placed in a closet with temperatures of 68-75°F to colonize. The incubation period can range from 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the environment and type of mushroom. To fruit, I made a 3” incision on one side of the block and placed it in a well-lit area away from direct light and sunlight. The incision on the block was misted with water 3X daily to maintain humidity. The fruiting temperature was 65°F (60-70°F). The entire process from start to harvest took 5 1/2 weeks. Happy mushroom growing! 🍄❤️ ✅Please do your research. Make sure your working area, tools, & grain bags are clean & sanitized. I wore a disposable mask and gloves and used 70% isopropyl alcohol. #learnontiktokcontest #educatoraward #mushroom #mycology #STEMTok
