that seems country or station specific, not europe

They do though. They even tell you where to stand so you can board the right class/part of the train with your seat should you have a reservation. Trains also have to change tracks from time to time for a variety of reasons, they tell you that too.

Europe isn’t a single country; this varies by country.

if you download the app you can usually see in advance what track the train will be on but they do change them at the last second sometimes

they can't tell you because they don't know

There’s nothing true in this picture. Trains in Europe are organized country by country, and at least in Germany, they tell the track in advance

this depends entirely on where you are in europe, some countries are like that, many aren't, in Germany they tell you way before, although it does sometimes change 0.5 minutes before boarding

Reason 1: So that people waiting for the next train are not in the track when the previous train arrives
Reason 2: So that if there's a last-minute change people are not moving from track to track but from hall to track
Reason 3: because halls are designed for waiting, tracks for getting into the train, not the opposite

Not all of Europe. In Switzerland the tracks are known for the full calendar year ahead.

probably depends where, in Poland you always know which platform it'll be unless there has to be some last minute change cause of a delay

"Europe" and I know days prior on which platform my train will be here in Belgium (though platform changes can always happen). If you're from the US, that's also very rich to say that when I've seen so many people almost miss their long-distance train because no platform was announced at all and they just had to guess based on where a lot of people were going. and that was in the big stations, mind you.

This is actually completely different in every single station of every single countries, please do not assume there are such generic rules for trains or you might miss them 🙏🏻❤️

there’s alway an assigned track that you can look up. the train could switch tracks for multiple reasons, but 7/10 it will be on its assigned track, just make sure to listen for announcements
