@sonyadolguinacpa: explaining why I no longer believe homeownership is a good idea for my family and why we are going to rent instead! #canada #bc #homeownership #investing #financialliteracy
This trend of renting saves you money is ridiculous. It's very simple, you have to pay someone to live anywhere, you can pay your own mortgage where you acrue equity, or you can pay some else's mortgage and pay for them to acrue equity.
It's fine to choose to rent over home ownership, but it's factually incorrect to say it saves you money or makes better financial sense.

For those who are wondering… Median Homeowner net worth >>>> Median Renter net worth 😉

idk about this one… if the math no longer makes sense why would landlords exist? If costs are going up like that for you, they’re also going up for the landlord, who will just pass it on to the tenant

Your math makes zero sense. A $14000/mo house does not rent for $5000/months, usually a $5000/mo rental would have close to $7000/mo in mortgage, of which just over half is interest. The interest payment on the same property is always less than rent.

Pointless debating people on this issue, they’ve been suckered into believing renting is throwing money away not realizing you come out ahead when u rent and invest the difference in the market. Equity returns are 2-3x housing

this is why condos are a scam. you’re basically in an apartment, even though you own it. this doesn’t compare to actually owning a detached home.

Girl same. Owned for 7 years, sold & am saving 3k a month. Canada has made it impossible to own & get ahead

interest, down payment and property tax is double than rent without calculating mortgage payment. and you lose benefits from showing high income to qualify.

My accountant also said that owning her home made no sense. If an accountant who has a good idea of the math says this, I believe her

$14k/month? I have a $500k detached and I’m paying $2400/month and another maybe 300 for property taxes and bills, are you thinking of buying a $1M detached house on an island? You also left out the property appreciation part.

Just an fyi for anyone who failed math, a 400k house loan will end up costing you around 1.3 million and that’s if you are lucky and got a very low interest rate.

Buy a duplex. Live upstairs and rent the other unit. Build equity using other people’s money.

Ppl who aren’t homeowners always think we are trippin when we say this but this video is in fact correct. I also own a 2 bedroom in east van and have been contemplating the same thing. But alas I love my condo but the math isn’t even close. Renting is roughly 60% of the total cost of home ownership most of which goes to unrecoupable expenses plus opportunity cost. This is facts 🙌🏻

Minor, but the home office deduction for designated room on a rental is also far better than when you own.

Owning a condo is only tcchnically ownership. Dont compare your experience to the stabillity and piece of mind of owning a free-hold detached home😉
