@a.dabbled.dwelling: Big backyard upgrade in progress and honestly… we might be a little crazy for DIYing a massive patio ourselves. 😅 Day 1 started with excavating the area, getting truckloads of pavers and sand delivered, and feeling wildly overconfident about how quickly this project would go. Then came weather delays, muddy chaos, and us questioning every life decision. Next up was weed barrier, leveling sand, screeding with PVC and string lines, and realizing sand is offensively heavy. (My back is still recovering.) After a very long 12-hour day, we finally got all 400 square feet of pavers laid and it’s already starting to feel real. Next up: cuts, edging, and building the outdoor kitchen because apparently we don’t know how to do anything the easy way. It’s still very much a construction zone, but seeing this backyard start to come together makes every sore muscle worth it. DIY patio project, backyard makeover, paver patio installation, outdoor living space, backyard renovation, outdoor kitchen build, patio extension, weekend DIY project, curb appeal, landscaping ideas.

3-5 years and it will need redone or look like crap. drainage rock/paver base is needed to have a solid base that will hold up.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just pour concrete?

Definitely will move and sink quick! We used a minimum of 4-6” of compacted clean stone and another 1” of 1/4” chips. Never sand
