@adytum_official: A 2022 study in Frontiers in Psychiatry assessed 109 neurodivergent adults. 99% met criteria for generalized joint hypermobility and 57% for hypermobile EDS, and rates of autism and ADHD traits, autonomic dysfunction, and pain were all linked. Most importantly, autonomic reactivity (how your automatic nervous system responds) statistically mediated the connection between connective tissue differences and neurodivergence, even after accounting for anxiety. The idea taking shape is that a single difference in connective tissue can affect the joints, the blood vessels, the gut, and the nervous system at once, tied together through the autonomic nervous system. This is correlational research in a relatively small group, and autism and ADHD were measured with screening questionnaires, not formal diagnosis, so it shows a strong link, not proof that connective tissue causes neurodivergence. The “inherited as a package” idea is a hypothesis researchers are still testing. I’m not a scientist, just sharing research I find fascinating. Be honest though, how many of these do you have? Drop your list below. Source: Csecs et al. (2022). Joint Hypermobility Links Neurodivergence to Dysautonomia and Pain. Frontiers in Psychiatry. Recently got late diagnosed with AuDHD and I have hypermobility, PCOS (now PMOS) and endo. My son was also born 3 months early due to IUGR and the placenta formed too small. I’m convinced it all has to be connected

This is literally what I have been telling all of my specialists for years. I’m finally having genetic testing done through Probably Genetic, I’d definitely recommend anyone dealing with this to look into it.

Autonomic dysfunction os difficult to identify, so they use differential diagnosis with a process of elimination, it’s why it takes so long

I’ve recently started taking L-theanine to calm my autonomic nervous system. Like 2 days ago. As well as peppermint oil for my gut. It’s too soon to tell, but I definitely feel different.
