I feel like a better explanation is simply that people expect to see mom's features in baby because baby has physically been a part of Mom for the duration of the pregnancy so even the smallest resemblance another person (dad) is noticeable and stands

very true even in our african culture when you visit a family with a new born, you are supposed to say the baby looks like its daddy including gestures and praise the daddy for having strong DNA genes. for me and my other young sister are dark in complexion like mum and my father's young brother and my father's dad. so those who are not educated about this cultural practice would say I look like my father's young brother since my dad is light skinned.this made it hard for him to see me as his daughter like the other 4 siblings.
