The June 22, 1969 movement was a pivotal event in the history of South Yemen, shifting power from the moderate nationalist faction to the radical Marxist wing within the National Liberation Front (NLF). After gaining independence from Britain in 1967, South Yemen formed its state institutions and government, with Qahtan al-Shaabi as president. However, he faced growing opposition from leftist leaders who sought to “correct the path of the revolution” towards scientific socialism. On June 22, 1969, this group moved against al-Shaabi, forming a Presidential Council of five members to assume power: 1.	Salem Rubai Ali (Salemin) – Chairman of the Presidential Council. 2.	Mohammed Ali Haitham – Council member. 3.	Ali Ahmed Nasser Antar – Prominent military leader. 4.	Saif al-Dhali – Key leader in the NLF. 5.	Abd al-Fattah Ismail – Ideological architect and Marxist theorist. Later, after internal conflicts, three members were removed: Mohammed Ali Haitham, Ali Ahmed Nasser Antar, and Saif al-Dhali. Salem Rubai Ali remained as Chairman, Abd al-Fattah Ismail continued as the ideological reference, and Ali Nasser Muhammad joined as the leading executive member of the new leadership. The movement led to the renaming of the state as the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen in 1970 and the adoption of strict socialist policies, including: •	Nationalization of factories and land. •	Elimination of class and tribal privileges. •	Close alliance with the Soviet Union. Aden became the first Arab state to officially adopt Marxism, paving the way for the establishment of the Yemeni Socialist Party as the sole ruling party in the South. #southyemen #marxism #communism #yemen #fypシ゚
