as a catalan speaker he did quite well considering he probably didnt have much time to practice!!! we really appreciated the effort, especially since gaudí was truly invested in preserving the catalan language and culture

Catalan speaker here. I think there was an effort behind his speech, with some pronunciation errors that could have been avoided just with more phonetic information at hand, like -ig pronounced -ich.

also it’s important to say that Catalan is the own language of Catalonia, while Spanish, even if it’s official nowadays, was imposed some centuries ago.

I’m a hearer of Catalan (speak very little), but ever since school (3rd to 10th grade) I have known the importance of recognising that Catalan is not(!) a dialect of Castilian. Mi profesora cubana instilled this in us. 🥰🙏🏼
