I feel like shame was created by my parents who I noticed also experience it. I didn’t know what it was once upon a time but I feel when it happens now.

Shame feels like a life punishment for any small given mistake. No chances to fix. Just guilty.

this is so true. I get defensive when I am challenged on particular things that bring up shame, because those particular things were my thoughts about myself as a result of how I was treated as a child 🥲

I spent 4yrs in therapy trying to avoid dealing with my pervasive shame after a 55 yr lifetime of being driven by it. Recently I started parts work and found that compassionate curiosity disarms shames power. Its been a really powerful gamechanger

Thank you, that was very compelling. It would be cool though if you talked about how to overcome that shame as well

I'm not ashamed to say I enjoy your content. Keep it coming. Shame as a description of self worth is a coverall metaphor, and somewhat lacking specific analysis for feeling inadequate or vulnerable about ourselves. We all try to manifest an image of ourselves in the wider world which acts as a barrier to displaying our insecurities. Surely owning those insecurities and vulnerabilities are the basis for real contentment and building a better representation of ourselves.

How do you approach the conversation with a man who responds with “I’m not ashamed of anything” when you bring up the CONCEPT of shame not individual event. He just doesn’t understand it and his defensiveness and anger is all rooted in shame, however I am calling into the wind.

I'm almost at a loss for words, because it's all just resurfaced - you've described me to a t. I made a terrible mistake when I decided to trust a man and ate his lies for 5 years. I finally broke free, been avoiding any sort of closeness for years now, turned into a workaholic, and hoping I'm liked for who I truly am. Shame is a cage.
