There is still a lot a misogyny in society where women are expecting to be quiet and keep sweet. For example, with my first birth I received sub-standard care and I almost gave birth in the ante-natal ward at the hospital as no one would belive I was in labour (nor did they carry out any checks to ascertain if I was in labour) . I suffered birth trauma and my unborn child was put at risk. The amount of people who told me I should be quiet and be thankful I had a healthy baby was unbelievable. They shut their mouths when I complained to the hospital and they apologised in writing for their sub-standard care.
