@trevorcarroll_: TW: This video talks about suicide. Please know that help is available. If you are in the US, call or text 988. For international resources, see below. The statistics about suicide among autistic people are startling.
I'm part of the 66% and the 35%. I feel like I'm finally in a place now where I can appreciate the beauty in life, and where I can find meaning and purpose even in the midst of challenges. But if you're not quite there yet, please know you are not alone. There are so many of us working on the intention of creating a more inclusive and accepting world, and I truly believe it’s absolutely possible. Everyone, no matter their differences or disabilities, deserves a place in this world. I'm sending you love and blessings today. For so so long I didn’t want to be here. I felt like I didn’t belong in the world. Nothing made sense & everything was unbearable. Getting diagnosed a year ago took away the confusion and despair. Now I’m learning how to live an authentic life being true to myself & things are so much better. Life is still hard, but I want to thrive instead of barely surviving.

I’m still struggling with it. I push myself past my limits every day and it’s still not enough. I can’t work full time. 32 hours is my max. I get called lazy by my support system and told to “work harder.” I get shamed for not going to social outings when I’m already burning all of my energy to survive. Then I get told I’m “being rude” and “people are giving up on me.” I don’t know how much more of this I can take… I’m so tired and feel completely alone and everyone just thinks I’m being lazy and making excuses.

Whenever I get to remember that I actually survived almost 8 horrific years of burnout (just recovered less than a year ago) I'm somewhat amazed, how did I not die from it? I've recovered, but it's still hell with no structures to help — Severe Dysregulation, poor life skills, capacity still very shrinked, all along with socio-communication challenges... I wouldn't mind being gone away from all of it... Cos I'm genuinely scared how things may eventually end up... But I live... For Hope & For Spite.

I am part of those statistics too. What you say here is so real. All my life I’ve lived on the line btwn wanting and not wanting to be here. I don’t belong anywhere, really, and without friends or community that understand without wanting to *fix* it’s really hard work to stay.💗

It’s hard being on top of the world thinking you finally are gonna turn everything around!!… and you forget…. Forget there’s an autistic burnout bomb that can go off at any moment. Flashy lights, loud environments, too many people talking to you at once, cancelled plans, a big change or one itchy shirt tag away from lighting the fuse of that bomb. And ur instantly humbled and at its mercy. Your brain and mental go from amazing to feeling like everyone’s burden. Anything can make it worse. Even the things and people you love. You just want your head and body to function again. But instead it just keeps getting worse. The thoughts, the pain, the burden. All of it at once. And all you want is for it to stop. Stop. Stop hurting. And sometimes in those moments, death is one of the most peaceful sounding solutions. Nothing else is working. Some things help a little but it just comes back. And it never ends. I’m both grateful and sad that others don’t know what this feels like. I’m glad people can learn and that there are others like us.

It's because the world has no way to grasp how we are. They can put in 200% effort to compromise and we are borderline burning out for the 9th time... We go away because there is no way to relax and exist with them.
