@dr.rickpescatore: Have you been taking the purple pill for years? Do you have bottles of Pepcid for the house and car? That’s not normal. And it comes with a risk! #research #heartburn #stomach #gerd #millenial
And if you have severe GERD, what are you supposed to do?

I have been on Omeprazole close to 20 years now for GERD. if I miss a dose, I can't even drink water without symptoms, yet I've been referred to gastroenterologist FOUR TIMES for investigation and DECLINED every time because I'm not "bad enough". what am I supposed to do? be in agony the rest of my life? I can't go private, I'm not Richie Rich.

I have a hiatus hernia and nexium is the only relief I've been able to find. without it daily I have heartburn 24 hours a day with no relief. I'll just start eating raw magnesium lol

Some people need to be on it long term. I've been on them for over 30 years and if I stop I get reflux induced asthma, low or no esophageal motility food stocks in my esophagus and I aspirate when I sleep at less than 45 degrees. That could kill me.
It's not when I eat pizza its always.

If we listened to every person that says we can't do this and we can't do that, we can't eat this or we can't eat that well. this medication will do this to you and this medication will do that to you as an older person. if it makes me feel better I'll take it. I'm tired of people telling me what to do and what not to do and who do I believe anymore

I have silent gerd (LPR) and without nexium, gaviscon and chewing gum I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed in the morning. As for magnesium, I take tablets plus use transdermal oil, magnesium levels are excellent, but if I forget to take it I really feel it- cramps, muscle aches, loss of libido etc

Had been taking PPIs for a long time.
Then started a much higher fibre diet with a natural fibre supplement in the evening (it's called Metamucil here in Oz).
Very quickly all my digestive problems went away.
Maybe something to consider.

I was prescribed with esomeprazole and told to take it every day. instead, i take it any time i feel esophageal acidity building and it works amazing.probably use it once or twice a week. i had read that taking it daily can cause magnesium deficiency and nausea or something.
