@ajplus: Anti-immigrant riots in Northern Ireland left many cars and homes burned after masked protesters went through mostly immigrant parts of Belfast. “I'm afraid maybe I might be the next to be attacked on the street. So I don't know where to take my family,” said a Congolese man who lives in one of the streets that was attacked. The protests were in response to a knife attack on June 8 by a Sudanese man who stabbed another man multiple times in the head. Authorities say the protesters were incited by right-wing activists and anti-immigrants politicians online. #Belfast #Racism #UK #Immigration

I’m black and I don’t blame the people of Belfast at all for expressing their feelings towards what happened to one of their own citizen. After watching the footage of the incident.

When a crime is committed, responsibility belongs to the person who committed it not to an entire nationality, race, or immigrant community. The same society that is quick to blame immigrants often forgets that many of the people saving lives in hospitals, caring for patients, and serving their communities are immigrants too. It is wrong to make innocent people suffer for someone else’s actions. Collective blame only creates more division and pain. We should be teaching our children empathy, respect, and peaceful coexistence, not hatred, violence, or prejudice. Everyone deserves to be judged by their own actions, not by where they come from.

The crime was committed by an individual and should not be associated with or attributed to others who share the same ethnic background

It is concerning that Ireland's efforts to assert its national identity and safeguard its cultural heritage are being perceived negatively, particularly given its historical context of suppression.

If a person commits a crime, responsibility lies with that individual and anyone who participated in or assisted in it, not with millions of people who share the same nationality, religion, or ethnicity. Every society has both criminals and decent people, and generalizing the actions of one individual to an entire group often leads to injustice, increased tension, and hatred. At the same time, it is natural for people to be angry about a violent crime and to demand that the perpetrator be held accountable, as well as effective security policies. However, there is a significant difference between: • Holding the criminal responsible for their actions. • Punishing or blaming an entire group because of the actions of a single individual. For this reason, in democratic societies, people are supposed to be judged based on their individual actions, not on their identity, background, or origin.
