@taylorcezanne: She has no idea I’m a dog trainer. Context: I’m picking up my neighbors dog from his board & train. My neighbor is 72 years old & Marlow is reactive. He decided to get Marlow trained at a board and train that he’s heard of through word of mouth while he gets a major surgery & recovers for a few weeks. It’s not my place to tell my neighbor what to do with his own dog. I also didn’t know the extent to how they used adverse tools until I saw the training videos. It made me really upset, that I even cried watching them. Traumatizing. I’m sad that training like this exists. I don’t believe that it works. I believe it’s cruel to use pain or unnecessary force to teach a dog what to do. My number 1 focus is on the dog’s emotional state, and tbh, I just don’t understand how other people don’t see it the same way. What are your thoughts after seeing this? #forcefreetraining #DogTraining #dogreactivity #balanceddogtrainingiswrong

board and trains make no sense to me as a dog owner… if i pay for training i expect them to train ME on how to train my dog…

I’m not even anti correction (I know I know) but this sounds… like I’m glad you’re working with him now 🤣 the positive reinforcement and fun will make all the difference.

As a dog trainer I will only do a board and train at the facility if the dog is boarding. If the dog lives near by or owners aren’t traveling I expect to do a day train and have the parents pick up so we can review. I’d also never tell a client a former reactive dog isn’t reactive anymore. You can’t guarantee that at all. Reactivity is management

“how they act inside the house is how the act outside the house” is exactly the opposite of what happens with my reactive dog

He understands the expectations = I traumatized him and now he submits to me in a fawn response (afraid)

How sad that they train with punishments constantly instead of reinforcing the good behavior we want to see 🥹❤️

Trainer wanted us to go higher on the ecollar to fix reactivity (spoiler it made it worse). I stopped listening to the trainer and listened to my dog. I started bringing a squeaky toy on our walks and whenever we run into a dog it’s play time. It’s helped SO much. And now, his distance threshold for reacting is better. Hoping eventually to reach neutrality (after a lot of work of course). I’m not 100% against corrections, but I’m 1000% against them to treat something like reactivity.

I do not get board and trains at all. So much of working with a trainer (just two sessions so far) has been training US how to deal with certain situations. As for the corrections and methods just... ew.

what do they mean by "pop" ? like smack? or like our dog training taught a quick yank on the leash (more so in a startle not hurt them type way), thats what I call a "pop", as in pop the leash taught

I'm all for board and train if it's with a trainer you have an established relationship with and your dog does well with them. I haven't been able to bring myself to like the commercial ones. I considered sending my doberman to one while I had construction at my house when she was idk 5mo? I told them she just needs to keep working on her basics, no behavior issues for them to address and to train her R+ only. They told me their program didn't work without e-collar use. Why would you need an e-collar for a 5mo puppy doing basic obedience??

Why is she telling u how to handier the dog?! U are a trainor u know 😂😂😂 I hate board and trains lol I used to get it but training my own now being positive and got my girls anxiety controlled doing so much better I feel it’s a wage like train u to train them my biggest fear is sending ur dog to that is they wil feel they have it too good there and not be happy returning home / only listening to the people working with them
