I have a different strategy so tell me if this works. The first prisoner opens all 50 boxes. Most likely his number will show up (im gonna assume the boxes are not in a numerical order). The next step is the for prisoner number 1 to put aside the box and put it on a numerical order (No skipping numbers). And then, use a marker to put a number on the box and just rinse and repeat. if we can't use markers to this problem, there's a simple solution. Heres a scenario, its prisoner 23rds turn and his number is 31. He enters the room and sees the original box assortment of boxes and on the other side is the one with a numerical order. The boxes with a numerical order only have 34 boxes meaning he is guaranteed to get it when looking in that assortment. The rest of 16 tries for prisoner 23 is trying to increase the organized box area. I think this strategy is really good because it's odds of success increases the more prisoners take turns. I swear to God this isn't AI, I thought about this strat immediately after hearing the problem. There's probably some grammar mistakes and vocabulary inconsistency to prove it's not AI.

The first prisoner has a 50/100 chance to find his number, 2nd 50/99, 3 rd
50/98 (if they find their numbers) so yeah if the first prisoner finds their number then the chance has increased for the next prisoner. Also the explination is bs, since the question is poorly worded, since we can just assume stuff like that the prisoners can see the numbers on the box or which way the boxes were numbered, without any mention of it in the question.

i watched a video about this, i think it made chances go up to 3.3% from something much much lower it included smt about the prisoner going to their own number first then going to the box with the same number as they got from that box, i didnt personally figure this out, someone else did, shoutout to them i think i am yhe first comment and im explaining this so no random kid who watched the video comes in here and types out the answer like they thought of it themselves enjoy the answer

To explain it simple, let use 4 boxes: box 1: has number 3, box 3 has 2, box 3 has 4, and box 4 has 1. If prisoner 1 picks box 1 and chooses the next number, it will always loop back to number 1. This is true for 100 boxes but there is a 69% chance that the random order of boxes is too long(for example 51 boxes long)
