Point Break was never really about bank robberies or surfing. It's about two guys on opposite sides who end up understanding each other more than they understand themselves. Bodhi wasn't chasing money. He was chasing freedom. The waves, the skydiving, the endless search for the next adrenaline rush... that was his religion. Johnny Utah starts the movie hunting Bodhi, but somewhere along the way he starts envying him. That's what makes the movie work. The line between cop and criminal gets blurrier with every scene. Most action movies are about stopping the bad guy. Point Break is about realizing the bad guy might actually be chasing something you've secretly wanted all along. By the end, Utah doesn't let Bodhi go because he forgot his duty. He lets him go because he finally understands him. Thirty-plus years later, people still talk about Point Break because underneath all the action, it's really a story about freedom, obsession, friendship, and the price people are willing to pay to live life on their own terms.
