@johnmarkramosserad: HAPPY 128TH PHILIPPINES INDEPENDENCE DAY. June 12, 1898 General Emilio Aguinaldo declared Philippine independence from Spain in Kawit, Cavite. This date was later adopted as the official national holiday. But on July 4, 1946 Following decades of American colonization, the Philippines officially gained full, internationally recognized independence from the United States. For 16 years, the country celebrated its independence on July 4. However, in 1962, President Diosdado Macapagal signed a proclamation to move the official Independence Day to June 12 to honor the original 1898 declaration. This change was made permanent by Republic Act No. 4166 in 1964.
