cal WAS NOT innocent, in fact he was just as bad or even worse than andre because he managed to manipulate those around him to believe that andre was more aggressive than he was when in reality they shared the same narcissistic mindset. Cal saw others as pawns to get his way and his impulsive decisions caused andre to lose his temper multiple times (such as this scene or when he asks chris about which 🔫 to use to end someones life). Even during the attack he was more demanding of others, shouting at andre to move and follow him to another part of the school and going as far as to get on the tables with students underneath and taunting them while he knew he had the capability to end their lives too. The truth is cal took enjoyment out of tormenting his victims and his actions reflect his desire to have power over others, especially when the boys commit and he tells andre to "give me a yes" when he hesitates to pull the trigger. Obviously, andre has his flaws as well. Both of the boys were misanthropic individuals who hated nothing more than society. However, Cal's charm and approachability made him seem more innocent to others despite impulsive questions and little attempt to conceal his plans for zero day. I would like to believe that even after they carried through with their "mission" cal's family and rachel blame andre for influencing him as they were none the wiser to the fact that cal was a sadistic, narcissistic person.
