We “sell” the foul because refs dont call fouls correctly. Football used to be so much more physical watch 80s-2000s it was so physical but the game evolved to more technical plays. As the game evolved the refs used to just call fouls for nothing even though we are actually hurting so we would “over do it” so the ref will actually stop it. Its also tactical to get some rest cause we get no breaks like nfl and nba. The new hydration break is a new thing that started this year
