For Jameson, Toy Story has been part of his life for as long as we can remember. Long before cancer. Long before hospital stays. Long before any of us knew what the future would hold. Over the years, Buzz, Woody, and the entire Toy Story gang became familiar friends during some of the hardest days of childhood cancer treatment. They brought comfort, laughter, distraction, and a little bit of normal childhood into hospital rooms when we needed it most. This week, that same little boy who once watched Toy Story from a hospital bed walked the red carpet at the Toy Story 5 World Premiere. But as incredible as the premiere was, the most meaningful part of the evening wasn’t the red carpet, the celebrities, the theater, or even seeing his favorite characters come to life. It was watching Jameson send messages of encouragement to children currently fighting their own battles in hospital rooms through Buzz Lightyear’s Star Command Starlight Uplink. For years, Jameson was the child receiving hope from others. At the premiere, he had the chance to give that hope back. For a child who spent years receiving encouragement in hospital rooms, being able to give that encouragement and hope back was a full-circle moment our family will never forget. Thank you to Starlight Children’s Foundation, Disney, Pixar, and everyone who helped make this unforgettable experience possible. Thank you for creating moments of joy for children and families walking difficult roads, and for reminding kids like Jameson that they are so much more than their diagnosis.
