@leviroams: 😁 Planning your first Japan trip in 2026? These are the things I got completely wrong so you don’t have to. 🏙️ Crammed 5 cities into 10 days — Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Hakone. Spent 4 hours in Hiroshima and genuinely can’t remember a single thing I ate there. Now I cap it at 3 cities per 10 days. The memories actually stick. 💰 Japan still runs on cash and nobody tells you this. Landed with just my Revolut card, worked fine in Tokyo, then hit a small temple town at 9pm where zero restaurants took cards. Now I pull $200-$300 from a 7-Eleven ATM on day one. Flat $2 fee, they’re at every airport. 🛌 Paid $400 for 3 nights in Shibuya. $130 a night for a 15m² room that was loud until 3am. Thought being near the crossing was worth it. It wasn’t. Ebisu, Yanaka or Nakameguro — $60-$70 a night, quiet, walkable, still 15 minutes from everything. 🚆 Bought the JR Pass because every blog said to. For Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka a Suica card covers the exact same route for about $80. The pass only makes sense for 5+ cities or going far south. 🛤️ Booked Narita without thinking. The express into central Tokyo is 1h30 and $20 each way. Haneda is 25 minutes and $3 on the monorail. Most airlines default to Narita so check both airports when you search. 📱 Most generic eSIMs — Airalo, Holafly, Ubigi — block TikTok, Instagram and banking apps the second you land in Japan. 1: Yup, truth. my first trip to japan was 8 days in tokyo, 2 days in hakone. worth. 2: yeah, on the money. 3: yeah being near a train station is the number 1 priority for lodging. 1km walk from train station to hotel can kill trips 4: I just rent a pocket wifi. does everything i need so I didnt know. 5:true 6: im biased cause I love the skyliner to Narita. Decompression after the whole trip.

Dont need any esim cards. Use your phone for text, calls, internet, tiktok, instagram, or wifi in your hotel. Nothing is blocked
