My previous job messed up my pay and paid me like 5 dollars extra. I brought it up with them after my first paycheck because I wanted to be honest. Nothing ever came of it until 2 years later when I got a promotion. When they went to increase my pay they were pissed at me and wanted me to pay back all the money. I sent them the email I saved where I brought it up and never got a reply, and that saved my ass so I didn’t have to pay it back anymore.

They changed my off day, and I followed the schedule. I even took a screenshot of the schedule with the time before I went off because I knew they were probably going to screw me over, and I was right. The next day, they asked why I wasn’t in the office. I told them I was following the schedule and was supposed to be off, but they didn’t believe me. When I got to work, I checked the online schedule and, yeah, they had changed it again. If I hadn’t taken that screenshot, I would’ve been screwed because we only have an online schedule. They changed it without telling me and almost made it look like I was the one in the wrong.

A new manager was hired and immediately demanded that I hand over the SQL password. I said sure, just sign this form that says that you'll be legally responsible for any screw ups or information leakage with a copy to HR. He never signed and never asked me for anything else ever again. Later he was fired for corporate espionage 💀

Here’s the thing about saving all those emails: if you’re just saving them in your work account, on your work computer, they are not going to help you. H.R. will lock you out of your computer the moment you need them.
