Hot take but I think everyone is too busy futuremaxxing to enjoy life. I think the best thing for sanity is to just focus on being the best version of yourself (professionally and personally) and if you are moving, even with a loose plan, you will end up somewhere. I find that many people who say “I didn’t think I would be here at X years old” have a very narrow view of success. When I first entered college as an art major, I never in a million years thought I would end it with an Economics degree lol. When I first started working in fashion, never did I think I would be working for a very serious Fortune 500 and enjoying it lol. If I had held on to some hyper specific idealized version of myself, I would miss out on so much.

Ill be 42 this year. The strike took my career in film. I had to fall back on retail. Im so disappointed in how things are going for me so i completely understand how they feel

this is interesting. i never had a set plan for my life, but i still didn’t imagine i’d be where i am today rebuilding. i think it’s ok to end up being a little thrown by the curveballs and path life has taken you down.

I just turned 43 and I am the same. I was a teen mom and my main thought was I didn't want us to be a statistic. So I did everything I could in the present to overcome others expectations. At my big age now I'm always in awe of the life I created. I got married, raised 3 sons, purchased a house at super young, stumbled into a director role at 40 and have traveled the world with my family.

Yep!! “Late bloomers” I think ultimately end up making more impactful decisions for their future because you’re able to think about it at an age where things become clearer. I’m glad that I thought about these things a bit later too.

Isn’t that crazy? I literally am always like “WOW this is my life” mainly because I didn’t have any expectations of what it would look like past 25. I think it also means that you are better at being present than you think.

Some people live in the future (I do) and I always imagined living a larger life in my 30s. It’s a form of creating your future or making it a reality. I did accomplish most things but now close to 40, I’m not sure what’s next and I’m learning to be present.

Same! I mean I’m 41, and I love the life I’ve created for myself!! But I didn’t place expectations on myself I just lived in the moment, enjoyed life, and went hard to build a good future and chase my dreams 💛 I don’t know what my life will even look 5 years from now, but I know I’m gonna be happy and thriving 🤗
