@powerandspeed333: On July 19, 1989 an United Airlines DC-10 suffered a catastrophic failure of it’s tail engine, which severed all three hydraulic systems and left the aircraft with unresponding flight controls. Captain Al Haynes, First officer William Records, Flight engineer Dudley Dvorak, and luckily an off-duty DC-10 instructor who flew as a passenger, Dennis Fitch,who operated the throttles continuously, managed to control the aircraft and reached Sioux City, Iowa but crashed during the landing attempt when the aircraft became uncontrollable near the runway. Despite crashing 185 people of the 296 survived, An extraordinary outcome for this emergency, Many consider it a miracle.
