@realgoodnewsxp: The church handed you a story about one God named Yahweh who made everything and picked the Hebrews as his chosen people. But Genesis 6 describes multiple sons of God (the Elohim) coming down to earth and having children with human women. That’s not a one God story. And the Hebrew word for God throughout the Old Testament—Elohim—is plural. The priests and scribes stitched all of these stories about many beings into one character starting in the 6th century BCE. For power. And money. #Bible #deconstructingchristianity #annunaki #nephilim #bookofgenesis
There’s also a council of gods mentioned in the Bible.

From what I understand, they do refer to divine beings. These exist in a hierarchy throughout the entire old testament, but in this instance I think they are referring to angels. It is pretty common for divine beings in ancient religions to come down and have offspring with mortals. In this verse I believe it's saying the angels came down and their offspring were the giants that ended up in Canaan. If I'm mistaken please correct me

Some of Genesis was injected into the narrative from the pagans in Babylonia when they had captured the Jews and inflicted their myths into the Torah.

to the specific verse that you quoted, I have always struggled with the fact that the nephilim were here before and after the flood. but in the next chapter it says that everyone was destroyed except those saved on the arc. how do we reconcile those two statements?

In ancient biblical Hebrew, Elohim (אֱלֹהִים) literally means "gods," "deities," or "divine beings". It is the plural form of the singular Hebrew root El (or Eloah), which generally means "strength," "might," or simply "god".
