@arlo.the.standard.poodle: Replying to @Moira the Poodle my guesses for why poodles are seen as “mean”. I also forgot to add their intelligence and independence can maybe come across as snobby or standoffish. #poodle #standardpoodle #doodle #dogcontent #dogmom
As a toy poodle you should all listen to her, I’m not mean I have boundaries, and also you need to bow down for me

Poodles have a higher class vibe which is why people think they are mean bc they can’t stand that a dog upstages them

As a groomer the smaller they are, the meaner they are. I haven’t met an aggressive poodle yet!

Poodles can be pushy, bossy and vocal. That can come off as mean but I personally don’t see it that way. Proper training to set boundaries is usually needed but they are also highly stubborn. I have never had an aggressive poodle and that matters most to me.

But yeah my poodle does not like being pet by other people. He dodges the hell out of them and it’s really throwing a curve ball in our CGC training. He’s not interested in other people and very aloof. However he lovessss cuddling me and wants to be in my lap all the time. I’ll also say poodles have a very deep chest and bark, so they do sound pretty scary.

My standard puts my hand in his mouth and pulls me to the yard to play. He’s a fantastic dog. And they like only their owners and tolerate other people. And if you call his name and he doesn’t know you, he’ll start barking at you. He’s a smart dog.

My poodle is SOOOOO friendly and affectionate. We’ve had to work on neutrality a lot because he thinks everyone wants to be his friends. As he’s gotten older and grown out of puppyhood he’s become more snuggly with me at home and will often solicit affection. He also adores kids. A lot of people say poodles are sensitive and don’t get me wrong, I think they can be, but my poodle is so opposite of that; his temperament is solid and hardy.

I’ve never heard a poodle was mean lol. My toy poodle would crawl inside me if I let her. I think it’s just a dog by dog thing?

I have worked with literally hundreds of dogs. I have met quite a few poodles. I have never once met a mean one, of any size. In fact Poodles (of all sizes) have been one of the breeds I have consistently fallen in love with. And most of them have been Standards. But I am also admittedly a small dog person. The small dog stereotype of them being nippy and "aggressive" is based in the fact that many many people do not respect small dogs or their boundaries. I have genuinely only met a handful of small dogs that have been nippy or aggressive, and it was literally because the owners couldn't comprehend respecting them like dogs and not accessories or toys. Several of those dogs ended up nicer to me than to their own owners. That being said, While my favorite breed is Chihuahuas, and no I'm absoltuely not joking, I would also absoltuely get a toy or miniature poodle. One of my favorite dogs I've ever worked with was a toy poodle. She moved away and I lost contact with her family, but I miss her a lot. Yes she had boundaries and communicated them respectfully, but never showed any type of actual aggression. But she was also incredibly happy and playful and incredibly sweet.

I love cats. You have to gain their respect. My poodle is the same way. He doesn't immediately trust strangers and when he's overstimulated he will remove himself from snuggles but he loves his people, is super smart, and happy to be around! Also the only dog I've ever had to watch tv.

My poodle is just the most energetic, playful smart boy, he is not in any way shape or form aggressive. He does cuddle me but only me, not my kids or my husband ..but he is just a little baby who wants to be the center of attention
